Inspiring Artists: Top 5 Photographers

The objective of the series of articles “Inspiring Artists” is to find artwork (either photography, illustration or video) that inspires us and create compilations. We hope this articles are helpful to find inspiration and useful to get to know different artists.

This is a compilation of five artists that have inspired us with their art. Originality, humanity or an environmental concern are some of the main reasons we found to select them. They have different backgrounds and styles, but what matters is the meaning of their art and why it inspires us.

Justin Hofman

Justin Hoffman is a photographer focused on wildlife photography. He is member of the Sea Legacy Collective where his bio states that his goal is “inspiring people to care about the natural world”.

He sure did.

Traveling as Expedition Leader on EYOS Expeditions made him realize he is more interested in conservation photography than ever. During an expedition in Indonesia, when they were almost leaving another colleague spotted a seahorse around some floating plastics. Justin was fast enough to capture by chance this award-winning photography of the seahorse holding onto an ear bud. This picture is finalist in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition powered by the Natural History Museum of London.

Why does he inspire us?

In the caption of the Instagram post of this picture he wishes “that picture didn’t exist but now that it does everybody should see it”. He understands the picture as an allegory of the current state of our oceans and ends with a reflection for everybody: “What sort of future are we creating? How can your actions shape our planet?”. For sure this picture stirred some consciences.

Paul Cadden

Hyperrealism (or photorealism) is a genre that emerged in the 1970s. The main characteristic is the fidelity of the painting to reality or an actual photography.

Paul Cadden is a great ambassador or this technique. He states that he aspires to “give the viewer a new emotional perspective in which he can appreciate an affinity for everyday situations as we deal exclusively with how people appear, when in reality people are more than what we see”.

Why does he inspire us?

Nowadays, we are living “The Era of Now”. Our life pace is so fast that we might lose the joy of pausing for a minute to enjoy little things. The fact that he invites us to take time to enjoy what is around us, observe and appreciate situations or objects that we consider normal is a great point of view. Definitely he achieves his goal, “intensify the normal”, with his art and that is why he belongs to our Inspiring Artists compilation.

Randy Lewis

Randy Lewis is a creative specialized on branding and logos. However, what caught our attention was his “This or That series”. In this series he finds something in common between objects, animals or food -related or not- and mixes them on pictures. You can find here the making of the picture below.

Tom Hussey

Why does he inspire us?

Tom Hussey is the last but not least of our Inspiring Artists compilation. The series treat the aging process with melancholia as well as celebration for the lived moments. This is a beautiful and touching project. It is inspiring how he creates an illusion to appreciate in one image the joy of youth and the reality that we all age.

We hope you enjoyed our Inspiring Artist compilation of photographers. If you have more artists in mind feel free to comment!
